Wow! What A year!

by WXC World Racing Team October 29, 2013

2013 was the year WXC World Racing’s young guns stepped up massively to become a collective force on the cross country scene.

With over 37 winning performances, 51 Podiums and another 69 top ten finishes to their credit topped off by Championship medals at the British, Irish and Scottish Champs.

As far back as January our new young signing of 2013, Abigail Van Twisk, was taking her first Championship medal for the team in the form of silver at the National Cyclo-Cross Champs, showing straight away what the team saw in her and why they signed her.

After a tough and very cold wintery first National round of the season in ten inches of snow at Sherwood Pines in Nottingham, WXC World Racing found themselves on the podium in a succession of National rounds, culminating in a fabulous win at the Olympic course at Hadleigh Farm for Isla Short. More domestic results followed with both Gretel Warner and Abi Van Twisk dominating their respective categories in the Southern Series taking both overall series and individual Championships.

In Ireland Claire Oakley not to be outdone by her young team mates, dominated the Irish Series taking the overall and a Championship medal, as well as the Ulster Championship.

In Scotland Isla Short continued the domination by winning both Scottish series and Championship.

Once the confidence level was up, there was no stopping the girls, with outstanding results in the British Championships at Cathkin Braes, Glasgow, the venue of 2014 Commonwealth Games, with medals for both Isla Short and Carla Haines. Abi just missed out in a sprint to the line having been in a breakaway the entire race.

On the Marathon scene Amber Southern enjoyed her number one National ranking with continuous podiums throughout the season and a great 4th place at the National Champs.

Throughout the summer months the team enjoyed success after success no more than Abigail Van Twisk spending time out of mountainbiking to compete on the road in the Youth tour in Asen Holland , then being selected to compete in the European Youth Championships in Austria.

As the domestic mountain bike season draws to a close our girls are keeping themselves fit by returning to cyclo-cross and Enduro racing for the winter months.

The team management is also keeping busy by signing another very talented youngster for 2014 ensuring WXC World Racing continue making progress towards top level professional mountain biking.
