Trip To SW France

by Robin Williams October 05, 2012

Hello!

It has been a busy few weeks, I’ve just come back from a two week surf and paddle training camp in South West France… I’ll come back to this in a minute.

Upon arriving back in the UK I have been counting down the days to the British Stand up Paddleboard Championships that are taking place over the weekend of the 13/14th October at Watergate Bay, Cornwall. The level of interest and competitors within the sport is growing year on year and as a stand-up paddle board (SUP) instructor I’m teaching more and more people who want to get in to the sport. This all means one thing the British champs will be made up of the best paddlers in the country looking to leave their mark and promises to be the biggest turn out yet!

So I’ve been putting in some additional training. Using the rivers and sea in the challenging winds and rain we’ve had recently.. I’m feeling good about competing and also hoping I leave my mark at the event.

…So back to the France trip, well it delivered everything I needed from a watersports trip – good waves and warm water! I was able to surf daily whilst soaking up the sun, and with guaranteed afternoon winds I was even able to get my power kite out to play with. I can’t recommend SW France enough, awesome beaches, warm waters, great surf and even rivers and lakes to paddle. The only problem with all that fun and play was the neglect I was giving the distance paddling.. Oops! :-) However the British Champs race is a ‘battle of the paddle’ style race which involves doing laps of a set course, racing in and out of the surf, which I feel I have got more than my fair share of practice doing.

Hence my commitment to endurance training in the rain and wind since being back in the UK… To keep my training in check I’ve had my Breo Orb Ten sports watch to help me out with timing my paddle sessions… and on that note it is almost time for me to head out and hit the water again!

I’ll check back through Facebook and Twitter from Cornwall to share how I’m getting on!

Speak soon!

Change Is The Most Natural Thing In The World

by Elaine Abonal September 12, 2016

It’s funny how we are told that people are naturally resistant to change, whereas the most natural thing in the world IS change. These past few months have all been about change for me and although in my brain I know it, my heart doesn’t seem to be ready. Until now, where I have taken a break and have been … Continue reading

As ever, I’m not sure where the past while has gone – summer definitely seems to have disappeared in the blink of an eye! I started off the trail running season on a really positive note and was ready, and very excited, to get my first ultra-race of the year ticked off nice and early in April. But, … Continue reading
