Life goes by INSANELY fast and here we are already on the 2 nd half of the year!
It’s been a pretty intense first part of the year! There were a bunch of Surfista trips lined up and it was again awesome to meet new people and share my love of surfing in the Philippines. We also had the first Intermediate Surfista trip – which was really cool because I learned so much. There is always something to learn in surfing even if you’ve been doing it for a number of years. There are so many things about the ocean, yourself, techniques, surfboards, waves, etc that I still have to discover and master. I love it though, I love the whole process and the feeling of wanting to improve each time.
Philippine summer starts in March and ends in June so the first 6 months of 2013 felt like it was all dedicated to summer. I had a bunch of interviews, photo shoots and video shoots for magazines, ads and the radio – all in preparation for the summer. I honestly love shoots because I get to meet different kinds of creative people, travel to different locations, pose just being myself, get made up (since I don’t really put on that much make up nor do I really know how to!! Haha), have fun and be in front of the camera. I will admit that I love being in front of the camera as much as I like being behind it. I was featured in many different magazines for the summer but I would say that my favorite one was being featured as a “Cosmo Girl” in Cosmopolitan Magazine Philippines.
I am no model and it is NO dream of mine to not eat (I love food too much) but it was still pretty cool as a girl to be featured on Cosmo by just being myself – a surfer entrepreneur. It was also cool to know that a lot more girls are inspired to surf because of this.
Now, it’s the rainy season in the Philippines (June-July) which is my least favorite time of the year. The traffic gets really bad around Manila and the surf is usually inconsistent. But! It’s a good time to prepare for the rest of the year (more surf trips!) AND in a couple of weeks I will be flying to Siargao island, which is my all time favorite island. I’ll be staying there for around 3 weeks and have 3 different groups of Surfistas. It’s a beautiful paradise island with waves, it won’t be raining there, and it’ll just be a lot of island and surf fun. I can’t wait!
I’ve been learning a lot about life, love, relationships, business, travel and myself in the past few months. It’s always just nice to know that there is always a new day and a new beginning for everyone. We shouldn’t be let down by our mistakes or by things that don’t work out. What’s important is that we do our best, try to do good for others, and learn the lessons we need to learn. Life is pretty awesome – and short and goes by quickly too – so we have to enjoy every second and make it count!
