Deal Kent – 10 th March
Not the best place to be on a Sunday morning as the icy wind blew on the Kent coast for Abi and myself as we stood on the line in the next saga of our preparation with the first National round only 2 weeks away.
As usual the Fowlmead MTB Winter Warmer gave us another opportunity to sharpen our technical skills and speed on the surprisingly quick 3km course.
The start was a mixed affair as both Abi and myself jockeyed for position on the starting grid with both senior men and women. Start was going to be important today as the men can get very aggressive, starting if they think us young girls are going to give them a hiding.
A great start for me. A lung busting sprint up the starting straight, I managed to get past riders on the way up. In a snap shot the course was not that tough, and not that much climbing, but plenty of technical sections to test the skills.
After the first lap I was first female with Abi not far behind so things seem to be going to plan, but as every body knows its not over till its over and just when you think your having a great day, it happens…
A puncture……..up until now my new Michelin tyres I have been testing over the winter, have been fantastic; must have just clipped something, broke the seal and that was that, a nice long walk back. For the Team it was still a great day as Abi passed me on her way through for her first victory for WXC World Racing and top spot on the podium. That’s what team mates are for and makes our team special.
Before the race started I planned to race hard to test my fitness and did that so overall very pleasing, but never happy with a DNF.
Again congratulations to Abi who had a sensational ride and long may it continue.
Once again both Abi and myself are only the riders and must thank the fantastic team we ride for in WXC World Racing and its sponsors for all the support during this epic battle, and for cleaning bike afterwards as usual.
