A Crazy Year…

by Elaine Abonal January 14, 2015

It’s been a crazy year of climbing mountains, crossing oceans, meeting different kinds of souls, experiencing unplanned adventures, opening and breaking hearts, surfing new waves, learning new languages and ways to live, and loving because of and despite everything.

Endings and beginnings can be scary but whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you’ve faced, all the battles you’ve won, and all the fears you have overcome. Take time to think and learn from your fricken mistakes. The new year is gonna be even more awesome?

Last year, I also started a private organization where we look for donated surfboards to give to young surfers around the Philippines. It’s been received warmly by friends and those who have been following what I do. In a month, Surfista Love Philippines – what we ended up calling it – has been able to give 4 donated surfboards to different far flung areas of the country : Sorsogon, Mati & Siargao. This dream – both mine & the groms – would not be coming true if it weren’t for the generous donors, friends & fans. I’m so proud of this project! I also can’t wait to see what else we can do to make a difference this year.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to anyone and everyone who has given me a warm smile, wrapped me in a tight hug, made me laugh til I cried, taught me something I didn’t know before, pushed me to surf better or do better at anything I wanted to do, trusted me with their stories, listened to my corny pick up lines & jokes, kissed me & meant it, reminded me of my sparkle when I forgot I shined, told me their true feelings even if they were scared, gave me rides on their motorbikes or cars, had adventures with at home or in an exotic place, gave me a wave even if it was obviously theirs, danced with me til we were sweaty & gross, drank coffee/wine/beer/mango shakes/calamansi juice with me when I’d get perpetually hungry or thirsty and loved me when I wasn’t so loveable. Aaaahhh!! The list can go on but THANK YOU THANK YOU to you who has touched my heart – you all know who you are. I wouldn’t be who I am and love life this much if it weren’t for you?

Thank you especially to Breo for supporting my lifestyle and my dreams and being part of it all!

Change Is The Most Natural Thing In The World

by Elaine Abonal September 12, 2016

It’s funny how we are told that people are naturally resistant to change, whereas the most natural thing in the world IS change. These past few months have all been about change for me and although in my brain I know it, my heart doesn’t seem to be ready. Until now, where I have taken a break and have been … Continue reading

As ever, I’m not sure where the past while has gone – summer definitely seems to have disappeared in the blink of an eye! I started off the trail running season on a really positive note and was ready, and very excited, to get my first ultra-race of the year ticked off nice and early in April. But, … Continue reading
