Breo Tries.. Paddle Boarding

Monday 3rd September 2012

Ok so petrol; check.  Equipment; check.  Directions; check – There was definitely no going back now!

Cathy and I had volunteered ourselves to be the next employees to take part in the Company’s “Breo Tries” initiative, this time tackling some Paddle Boarding!

After 2 hours of driving through Scotland’s amazing scenery we arrived at Ardoch House in Loch Lomond, the house itself was stunning and it was the perfect setting for a lovely afternoon of paddle boarding, there was no hanging about and before we knew it we were in our wetsuits and waiting nervously to begin our training. Peter was our training guide for the afternoon and he was an absolute gentleman, the perfect host for the afternoon and admittedly he was surprised that neither I nor Cathy fell in the water!

We both wore Bangle watches and Edge sunglasses, I liked the Bangle but I loooved the sunglasses – Not only did they protect our eyes from the glare off the water but due to them being rubber even once we started to work up a bit of a sweat they stayed exactly where they should have been!

So our training was complete and the time had come to get on the water - it was now or never! Cathy was first on the board and was a pro at it; I was then second and surprisingly took really well to it too. You had to begin on your knees and slowly build up to standing, it was definitely a burn out for the thighs and calves and getting from our knees to standing was definitely not glamorous for either of us! We completed the paddle boarding on the pond accompanied by some trout who continued to jump out of the water alongside us. It wasn’t exactly an extreme sport just being out on the pond, in fact it was relatively peaceful and there was something almost primitive about being out on the water with nothing but a board and paddle…

The watches and sunglasses were the perfect accessories to take with us and we both agreed that we’d love to do it again, perhaps getting a bit braver and venturing out on to the open sea! Overall the day was full of new things and fun and it was a pleasure to be a part of it!
